Greater Russia (after El Lissitsky)
2015-18
acrylic on wood, polymer clay, paper
12 inches high
A sculptural study of El Lisstizky’s “Lenin Tribune” drawing of 1920. The large sign at the sculpture’s top reads “GREATER RUSSIA” instead of the “PROLETARIANS” of El Lisstizky’s drawing. El Lisstizky’s drawing includes an image of Lenin (Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov), the head of Soviet Russia’s government at the time, in the speaker podium; this sculptural study includes a painted figurine representing Donald Trump, the current President of the United States of America.
